Lucy’s Project, an Australian charitable organisation that aims to improve the safety of people and animals experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV) through collaboration, advocacy, research and education, is holding an online conference 16-17 October 2024.
Perpetrators of domestic and family violence often threaten, harm and kill animals to control and intimidate victim-survivors.
Earlier this year, young Australian woman Molly Ticehurst was allegedly killed by her former partner Daniel Billings. In the months prior to her murder, he was charged with aggravated animal cruelty for allegedly killing her 12-week-old puppy.
This is why it is critical for veterinarians to recognise that the safety and wellbeing of people and animals is interconnected, and that animal abuse is a high-risk factor for intimate partner femicide.
The conference features over 15 highly experienced speakers who will provide an insightful and inspiring look into their work on domestic and family violence perpetrated against people and animals.
