Greencross Pet Wellness Company has been recognised as an Advanced Workplace through the Mental Health First Aid Australia Workplace Recognition Program, acknowledging its commitment to creating a mentally healthy and supportive workplace for more than 7000 team members across Australia.
The recognition reflects Greencross’ significant investment in Mental Health First Aid training, equipping team members with the skills and confidence to recognise when a colleague may be experiencing a mental health challenge, start supportive conversations and connect them with appropriate help.
The veterinary profession is recognised as one of the most emotionally demanding healthcare industries, with veterinary professionals regularly balancing complex clinical decisions, emotionally challenging conversations with pet owners and the welfare of the animals under their care.
“Mental health is just as important as physical health, and creating psychologically safe workplaces is essential to helping our teams thrive,” Greencross Pet Wellness Company chief people officer Kathryn Farnell said.
“We’re incredibly proud of our Mental Health First Aid Officers and the numerous team members who have embraced this training. Their willingness to support their fellow colleagues helps to build a culture where people feel safe to ask for help, have open conversations and know they are not facing challenges alone.”
Greencross’ commitment to mental health and wellbeing also extends beyond its own teams to the wider veterinary profession.
Greencross Vets and the Petbarn Foundation continue to support Sophie’s Legacy, a charity dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing across the veterinary profession, through ongoing fundraising, advocacy and industry initiatives.
Throughout the year, Greencross Vets teams support events and initiatives that raise funds and awareness for Sophie’s Legacy, while helping bring the veterinary community together and encouraging important conversations around mental health and wellbeing.
This ongoing support reflects Greencross’ broader commitment to a veterinary profession where people feel valued, supported and empowered to seek help when they need it.
The Workplace Recognition Program acknowledges organisations that demonstrate a strong commitment to embedding Mental Health First Aid principles into workplace culture through training, awareness and ongoing support.
For Greencross, the recognition reflects a broader investment in the wellbeing of veterinary and support teams, ensuring team members have access to trained Mental Health First Aid officers, practical resources and a workplace culture that prioritises psychological safety alongside clinical excellence.
