For over eighty years Purina has been a pioneer in the science of pet health, with deep-rooted passion for pets and a promise of high quality nutrition, proven science and results. Each diet has been developed and tested by a team of Purina nutritionists, scientists and veterinarians, all working to understand how nutrition can benefit pets with special health needs. Through proper dietary management, our goal is to help your pet leads an active, healthy life.

Food sensitivity generally appears as gastrointestinal upset and/or intense itching or scratching. This can develop at any time – even after years of eating food without problems. The culprit is usually a common protein source such as beef or dairy, but dogs & cats can become allergic to any such ingredient. A food allergy or intolerance generally appears as gastrointestinal intolerance or intense itching or scratching. Adverse food reactions account for approximately 10% to 15% of all allergic skin diseases in dogs and cats.1

Food allergies are typically triggered by an immune-mediated response to intact proteins. All intact proteins are potentially allergenic, even alternate protein sources.

A protein’s ability to elicit an allergic response appears to depend on the protein’s size. Most common food allergens have a molecular weight of 18,000 to 70,000 Daltons. Major allergens in non-hydrolysed soy have been shown to have an average molecular weight above 28,000.

The hydrolyzed protein in HA formulas reduces the risk of an allergic response and is a truly hypoallergenic diet contains protein that has been reduced to small polypeptides through hydrolysis. Small polypeptides are not recognized as an antigen by the immune system. The proteins in the HA formulas have an average molecular weight below 14,000 daltons. HA Hydrolyzed can be used in the nutritional management of dogs & cats with:

  • Food allergic gastroenteritis
  • Food intolerance
  • Chronic non-specific diarrhoea or vomiting
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Pancreatitis
  • Food allergic dermatitis
