Veterinary clinics play a crucial role in providing medical care to animals in the community. Knowledge in the setup of a veterinary clinic is essential to ensure the comfort and well-being of both the animals, their owners, and the veterinary staff. One of the key components of a veterinary clinic setup is the design and arrangement of cages.
Cages are an integral part of a veterinary clinic as they provide a safe and secure space for animals during their visit to the clinic. The design of cages should take into consideration the size and type of animals that will be housed in them.
GVP-General Vet Products took all the below into consideration when designing our animal cages for a veterinary clinic:
1. Size: The size of the cage should be appropriate for the size and species of the animal. The cage should be spacious enough to allow the animal to move around comfortably. GVP have many different size cages and cage bank options.
2. Material: Cages are typically made of stainless steel. Stainless steel cages are durable and easy to clean. GVP cages also have “Sound Dampening Technology”, that significantly reduces the cross-cage noise that other stainless steel cages experience. This in turn allows even the most anxious animals to enjoy a quiet space to recuperate after general anaesthesia or sedation as there is minimal noise echoing through the cage which they are very sensitive to at recovery stage. Our cages are made from high-quality Stainless-steel – SUS304 providing long service life, consider your purchase as a smart investment on products that will outlast.
3. Hygiene: Cages should be easy to clean and disinfect to prevent the spread of
infections. GVP Stainless Steel Cages have radius turned corners and edges (rounded) eliminating difficult to clean edges and corners, which is essential for maintaining hygiene. Crimped flooring to help eliminate ‘wobble board’ sounds, but most importantly, allows for up to 1 litre of fluid collection. We have also designed our Stainless-Steel cages without collection troughs as we have found that these are rarely cleaned sufficiently, and they have been shown to be unhygienic and a bacterial trap. Troughs are not recommended by pathologists.
4. Comfort: Cages should provide a comfortable and stress-free environment for the animals. Soft bedding, such as our GVPTE-Petbed – helps to keep your patients dry and warm whether they are recovering from surgery, just born or are being treated in hospital for medical problems. Urine and other fluids soak through Petbed to the lower layers leaving the upper layer drier and more comfortable for pets. Helps reduce the incidence of pressure sores patient’s recumbent for prolonged periods, it can be placed inside the cage to provide warmth and comfort.
5. Accessibility: Cages should be easily accessible for veterinary staff to provide safe medical care and treatment to their patients. GVP Cages embrace a single hand locking system making it easy to handle a patient and unlock/lock the door at the same time. Our larger sized cages come with easy to remove sound absorbing cage dividers, to make it a simple task of increasing or decreasing the size of the cage.
In addition to these factors, the layout and arrangement of cages within the veterinary clinic should also be carefully planned. At GVP, we have an inhouse design team on hand with clinical experience and knowledge to help guide you when setting up or renovating your small to large Veterinary Clinic.
