We’d been thinking about getting a dental X-ray unit for some time when I saw these items advertised in the DLC catalogue. They put this package together for us and it has been a great addition to our clinic.
What’s good about it
The camera is a handheld X-ray generator that’s battery operated. It’s very manoeuvrable as there are no leads or cords to get in the way. The small plates fit nicely inside the mouth and are processed through a CR unit. DLC remotely helped us install everything and were very helpful. They dialled into our computer during our first couple of patients to ensure everything went well. It has revolutionised the way we do dentals.
I use the unit for every dental. It allows us to provide a more comprehensive service and make definitive choices when it comes to extractions. There is no guesswork involved and it’s improving our diagnostic skills.
One thing that can be difficult is getting the angles right when taking X-rays. Different people use different methods but, once you get the hang of it, the results are consistently good. It’s also great for X-raying paws, particularly during surgery on a toe or a leg.
The quality of the results is excellent. We’re in the process of having them automatically saved to the patient file. This system has been one of the best purchases we’ve made as it’s simple but efficient. It’s just plug and play.
What’s not so good
This unit is CR so the plates need to be processed. A DR unit would send the images straight to a computer. This means our dentals take a little bit longer than if we had a DR.
