management software system

by Ricci Trower, practice manager, Oakleigh Central Vet, Hughesdale, VIC

We were using two different systems for our rostering and HR that were pretty clunky. I was at the Vet Expo in Melbourne last September and came across Tanda. It’s a management tool that runs payroll, rostering, timesheets and HR. I spoke with the rep and was impressed by its functionality.

What’s good about it

We subscribed to Tanda in October 2025, and its streamlined system consolidated everything into one platform. It has made rostering simple with options for multiple locations and multiple groups of staff. The system is accessible on a laptop or smartphone. All the staff now have everything they need at their fingertips.

It can create templates and produces clear financial reports. I can see our projected rostering cost versus actual cost which helps me track if I’m rostering adequately. Staff clock in and out with the ability to switch locations. A fun fact I love about this system is that staff take a photo of themselves as they clock in. We have a good culture at the clinic and sometimes their photos can be a bit cheeky and fun.

If a staff member should injure themselves, they can just pull out their phone and log it immediately on Tanda. It solves the problem of injuries not being logged.

Tanda is effective at running payroll because it integrates with Xero and other accounting programs. All our contracts and policy documents are on Tanda which makes them easy to action. Policies can be grouped for different areas such as vets, nurses, reception and kennel staff. This ensures the right people are getting the correct policies.

I’m a member of a practice manager’s forum and regularly recommend Tanda to others.

What’s not so good

It’s a beast to set up, taking multiple days and sometimes weeks. Once it’s running, however, it’s smooth, streamlined and intuitive.
