Before purchasing the Vetscan VSpro, we used Activated Clotting Time tubes for our clotting test. We found with the ACT tubes, there can be some operator error and often got borderline results. The Vetscan VSpro provides accurate, definitive results.

What’s good about it

The Vetscan VSpro is simple to use and very affordable for clients. This machine is invaluable when diagnosing snake envenomation and rat bait toxicity. It’s far superior to the ACT tubes and we trust the VSpro to provide fast and precise results. We also get more information from the PT/aPTT results than we do with the ACT tube, and that helps us differentiate between the disease processes.

The unit only requires a small sample of blood to run the test. The results are generated quickly which is a great help when dealing with snake envenomation or rat bait poisoning.

The machine is very low maintenance, only requiring the filter to be cleaned. The cartridges are stored in the fridge, so it takes a couple of minutes to warm them up before use. Even then, the whole process only takes about five minutes.

There was a supply chain shortage of cartridges recently and we had to go back to the old ACT method. It made me appreciate just how fast, efficient and essential the VSpro is in our practice.

What’s not so good

The cartridges that are used with the VSpro are a cold chain item. If the cartridges are held up in transit and cannot be kept refrigerated, they can’t be used as they may fail. It becomes very difficult when there are supplier issues causing a shortage of cartridges.

Where did you get it
